The Solent area EnglandThe Solent is a stretch of sea separating the Isle of Wight from the mainland of Britain. It is a great place for yachting. It is sheltered by the Isle of Wight and has a very complex tidal pattern. The ports of Southampton and Portsmouth lie on its shores. Spithead, an area off Gilkicker Point near Gosport, is well known as the place where the monarch reviews the Royal Navy. This stretch of water is amongst the most expensive waters in the world to cross by ferry. |
