Designed as a light trainer designed to be very economical to fly and maintain the Katana has been popular with flying clubs all over the world. Many pilots continue to fly the Katana after their flight training has been completed for one simple reason. This is a FUN aircraft. When you see one standing on the platform it seems to call at you ?let?s go flying!? The sleek lines and the small sports car cockpit entice you to spend time in the air.
Avionics
Do not be fooled by the seemingly simple avionics in this aircraft. The Katana
uses the well known BENDIX/KING KX165 for communication and
navigation. Detailed modeled, this amazing instrument will keep you on course.
Don?t be fooled by the simple looks, you will need to learn how to operate it.
Other avionics include the BENDIX/KING KR87 TSO Digital ADF that includes a two way timer, including flight time and a stopwatch that can count down for those pesky holdings. The BENDIX/KING KN62A DME with simultaneous distance, groundspeed and time-to-station display. The BENDIX/KING KMA28 TSO, an audio amplifier six-station intercom and marker beacon receiver and finally the BENDIX/KING KT76 Transponder with altitude reporting.
Cockpits
The Virtual Cockpit is done in incredible detail and for many people this will
be the first aircraft totally flown from this view. As all instruments are full
controllable in VC there is no need to move to the 2D views. Full 2D bitmaps
with additional insets for the engine instruments, radiostack, circuit breakers
and fuel management panel. Can all be selected with an easy to use panel
manager.
Sounds and Flight Models
The sounds have been recorded from the real aircraft and have been
extensively reworked to make them sound very good in FS2004. The flight models
have been worked on for weeks and are as good as it gets. Down to the drag
caused by the wheel covers (there are models with and without the covers).
Several pilots of the real Katana have helped in testing them. The aircraft is
relatively stable, but when you put her high in the speed range she gets very
agile and is always very precise to fly.
Special Features
The Load Editor is enhanced to allow you to switch between a
authentic ground steering or a simplified ground steering system. As you might
know the Katana does not have nose wheel steering, making a smooth taxi not the
easiest of tasks. If you fly on your own you can add a sandbag to the right seat
so you aircraft is better balanced. The Katana is a light and agile aircraft and
adding some weight will probably be better then a constant trim. Of course
inviting a nice girl to joing you is a lot more attractive. It's all possible.
The interactive checklist and reference guide are fully HTML formatted and offer far more then just lists of things to check. You are even able to do conversions and do some other simple calculations.
There are superb animations all over this project, from the
wind playing with objects in your cockpit when you open the canopy up to the
animation of your female passenger (now don't get your dirty mind going).
